FAQ

Questions about air motors

  • Because we lack knowledge about air motors, we cannot determine which model to select for an air motor.
If you determine two of your required output (kW), rotating speed (rpm) and torque (N•m), you can select your desired air motor. Please contact the nearest business office.
  • What is a set of air motor and three items?
This is air equipment that includes a filter, a regulator, and a lubricator. Please install them in front of the primary air line and the air motor’s air supply port.
  • What type of lubricating oil should we pour into the lubricator?
Please use lubricating oil that is equivalent to JIS-K2213 turbine oil Class 1 (ISO VG32).
  • Do you offer an oil-less SUS air motor?
Yes. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Is it possible to mount a component on the air motor to another device similarly to an electric motor?
Yes. The air motor has the same sizes of an output axis and installation flange as the electric motor with a rated output.
  • Can we select an air motor with a reducer?
Yes. You can do so. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • We do not understand how to regulate or control the air motor’s speed.
We can show you various control methods such as easy speed regulation by a speed controller. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Can we use compressed air such as nitrogen gas in the air motor?
Yes. Before using it, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Does the air motor cause overheating or burning/damage that occurs in the electric motor during overload operation?
Even if the air motor undergoes an overload, the motor merely reduces its speed or stops in balance with the overload. If the overload is reduced, then the motor restarts again or increases its speed and returns to its original state.
  • Which should we choose: a vane-type or piston-type air motor with the same output?
The vane-type motor is a motor with high-speed rotation and low torque. The piston-type motor provides low-speed rotation. It is often used in applications that require a large start torque. If you have any question when selecting an air motor, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Is it possible to operate the air motor continuously for many hours?
Yes. Its continuous operation hours are not limited, unlike an electric motor’s.
  • Can we disassemble and inspect the air motor ourselves?
Disassembly and inspection of the motor require expertise. Please contact the nearest dealer or our company.

Questions about air hoists

  • Are there any legal obligations for operation of an air hoist?
You are obliged to comply with the “Safety Ordinance for Cranes.” Also, you are required to perform a self-inspection for the cranes periodically and to store the results of the self-inspection. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Do we have to obtain qualifications to operate the air hoist?
As is the case with general cranes, various qualifications to operate the hoist are needed according to lifting loads and crane types under the Safety Ordinance for Cranes.
The legal obligations of an employer include “special education for operation of cranes (Article 22),” “license for operation of cranes (Article 22),” and “license for operation of floor-operated cranes (Article 224)” or “skill training course for floor-operated crane operation (Article 22).”
In addition, sling work for operation of the air hoist complies with “special education for sling work (Article 222)” or “skill training course for sling (Article 221).” For more information, contact the nearest business office.
  • What is a difference between the air and electric hoists?
As the air hoist uses no electricity, it is inherently safe. Unlike the electric hoist, it is possible to regulate the air motor’s speed steplessly without an inverter. The air motor is lighter and more compact than the electric hoist.
  • Why does the air hoist require a filter (F), a regulator (R), and a lubricator (L)?
The filter eliminates dust from supplied air, thereby preventing intrusion of the dust into the air hoist. The regulator adjusts a pressure of supplied air and provides proper air pressure to the air hoist. The lubricator feeds lubricating oil to the air hoist. If the hoist is not lubricated with the oil, then it eventually functions poorly.
  • What will happen if air is blocked for some reason during air hoist operation?
Because braking retains a load at the position where the air is blocked, you need not worry about the drop of the load.
  • Is it possible to extend the air hoist’s lift and pendant hose?
Yes. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Is it possible to use the air hoist outdoors?
Indoor specifications are adopted for the air hoist as standard. Outdoor specifications can also be adopted, but for more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Is it possible to use the air hoist in a clean room?
We also offer an oil-less air hoist that is available in the clean room. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Is it possible to manufacture an air hoist crane that is operated upward and downward and to the directions of east, west, south and north?
Yes. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Is it possible to use nitrogen gas as the supplied air?
    Yes.
  • Tell us about a standard length of a pendant switch.
The switch is 2.5 m away from the position where the air hoist is installed (from the upper hook in the case of a pendant switch that is hooked upper or from the bottom surface of a rail in the case of a pendant switch with a rail).
  • What type of lubricating oil should we pour into the lubricator?
Please use lubricating oil that is equivalent to JIS-K2213 turbine oil Class 1 (ISO VG32).
  • Can we disassemble and inspect the air hoist ourselves?
Disassembly and inspection of the hoist require expertise. Please contact the nearest dealer or our company.

Questions about air winches

  • Do we have to obtain qualifications to operate air winches?
You are required to provide special education on hoists. The requirements are set forth in Paragraph 11, Article 36 of the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health that the special education should cover work operating a hoist with power-driven system (excluding electric hoists, air hoists and other hoists pertaining to gondolas).
  • Is it possible to use the air winch in a seaboard region and on a ship?
We offer special air winches of various types that are tailored to special environments. Please contact the nearest business office.
  • How should we prevent a wire rope from being wound irregularly?
Please set a fleet angle at two degrees or less. Wind a wire rope’s first row (first layer) around a drum tightly and correctly. (An amount of primary lining of the first layer depends on air winch models.)
  • Do you offer a remote control air winch?
Yes. For more information, please contact the nearest business office.
  • Can we disassemble and inspect the air winch ourselves?
Disassembly and inspection of the winch require expertise. Please contact the nearest dealer or our company.

Questions about air balancers

  • Do we have to apply for a permit to install an air balancer?
Air balancers are subject to the “Ordinance of the Ministry of Labour,” but those with less than 0.5 tons are excluded from the ordinance. Therefore, you need not apply for it.
  • Are there necessary qualifications to operate the air balancer?
Air balancers are subject to the “Ordinance of the Ministry of Labour,” but because your air balancer’s weight is less than 0.5 tons, both a crane operator’s qualification and a slinging worker’s are excluded from the ordinance. Therefore, workers are not required to obtain legal qualifications.
  • How long does it take to install the air balancer?
Depending on air balancer model or installation location, one air balancer can be installed completely within one day for most models.
  • How much pressure does the air balancer require for air supplied to the primary side?
Depending the work piece weight, you can use the air balancer at air pressure of 0.3–0.6 MPa,
  • Is it possible to use the air balancer outdoors?
It is specified that the air balancer be used indoors. Therefore, please refrain from installing or using it outdoors or at any place where it might be exposed to rain or sunlight.
  • Can we disassemble and inspect the air balancer ourselves?
Disassembly and inspection of the balancer require expertise. Please contact the nearest dealer or our company.
